ULTIMATE Chocolate Cake

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!

When you find the BEST, the ULTIMATE, the TO-DIE-FOR chocolate cake…it’s a good day!  I can’t believe I haven’t shared this recipe with all you fine people until now!  This recipe is THE MOST REQUESTED DESSERT when my siblings come to visit.  It is the cake we hide in the cupboard until all the kids are asleep and the adults stay up late, talking and eating cake.  If there are any leftovers after we are sliding into our chocolate stupor…we hide them and sneak-eat them for breakfast.  This is the cake my healthy-fit-iron-pumping-calorie-conscious brother cannot resist.  YES people, this is the ULTIMATE chocolate cake!  It is made with butter which makes it rich, dense and chocolaty.  If you want SUPER dark chocolate cake you can use DARK  cocoa powder.  This is an amazing option which makes it almost black it is so dark.  You can use any frosting you like.  I am sharing our favorite Ganache frosting which is semi sweet and rich.  Delish!

The ULTIMATE Chocolate Cake Recipe!

The Ultimate Chocolate Cake Recipe

Just-so-you-know…There is a popular restaurant who is famous for their chocolate cake which is similar to this.  But…I’m not going to lie…this is BETTER!  Their “famous” cake is a bit dry in comparison and they use lame frosting…probably because they make their cake in bulk.  They sell huge hunks of cake in trendy boxes with snazzy trademarked ribbon and it is definitely good…but…not THE ULTIMATE.  THIS.RECIPE.IS.THE.ULTIMATE.  Yes, since it is not my original recipe I will shamelessly go on and on.  Lucky for all of us, my good friend Brandy D. was kind enough to share her recipe!  It has been a FAMILY ULTIMATE FAV for several years!  ENJOY!!

Love and CHOCOLATE BLISS,

Amy J

Let’s get cooking!

Combine dry ingredients.

Stir together melted butter and cocoa powder.  NOTE the bent whisk…this is courtesy of my youngest kiddo who thinks any and all kitchen utensils are swords and should be used to hit things.  I love this pic…it reminds me of him running around in the backyard, in his bathing suit, slashing my bushes with this whisk.  That is my busy-crazy-hectic-fun life my friends!  Non-stop action! 🙂

Beat eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until combined.

Note…this whisk is not bent…somehow this one flew under the radar!

Then mix wet and dry ingredients together EXCEPT THE BOILING WATER.

Once everything is combined, stir in 1 cup boiling water.  Mixture will be thin.

Bake at 350 degrees in a greased 9X13 pan for 40 minutes.

While the cake is baking.  Let’s make the Ganache Frosting!

Microwave cream for a minute or two to bring it to a boil.  Stir in chocolate chips.

Stir until smooth and glossy.  Pour over warm cake.  DELISH!
