Why we love this homemade salsa recipe
Hola Amigos! Let me introduce you to our FAVORITE HOMEMADE RESTAURANT SALSA! This has been a staple in family, and extended family dinners for years. We even give a jar of this each Christmas, with a bag of chips, as neighbor gifts. We can’t stop the tradition since salsa requests keep coming each year. After you try this, you might want to move into our neighborhood…OR…take a quick few minutes…save the moving expenses…and make some yourself! YUM-O!
SUPER FAST!!! This salsa can be made in under 10 minutes…Last summer I planned to bring this to a dinner party and I only had a few minutes before I had to leave. I made this salsa, start to finish, in 5 minutes. Now…I was flying around the kitchen like a crazy woman, tossing cans in the recycle bin and splashing water all over my kitchen while I washed the produce…not a method I would recommend…but my point is…you can make this in 10 minutes without slamming around your kitchen like a lunatic! Time for a FIESTA my friends! Make it, eat it, enjoy it!

How to make Homemade Restaurant Salsa
Let’s get the fiesta started!
- Gather your spices…and fresh lime…a must…no bottled juice here!
2. Toss a bunch of ingredients in the blender: tomatoes, jalapeno slices, salt, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, sugar and lime juice. Blend on high until smooth. This combines the spices and evenly incorporates the fresh jalapeno!
Please don’t cringe when you see that I make this in the blender. The fact is…no one has the time to stand around chopping the heck out of salsa ingredients. If you do, please come to my house and help me fold laundry, because I have plenty! Time efficiency is a must around here! Besides…all the flavors come together beautifully when you blend them! Blend this…trust me…then move on to your laundry! HA!
3. Next toss in green onions, cilantro, and green chilies. Blend for a few seconds on a low speed. This will mix in your green ingredients by chopping them up slightly. You do not want to blend on high or the cilantro, chilies and green onion will blend too much…changing the rich crimson color of your salsa to a sludgy brown. ICK!! If you have a “pulse” button on your blender, now would be a perfect time to use it!
4. Pour salsa into glass serving dish or jar and chill until ready to serve.
5. That’s it. Seriously! You are done! I know, I know…that was super fast and amazing! Just wait till you taste this savory/spicy deliciousness!
Grab some chips! Dive in…try not to eat half of it before dinner!
P.S. If you toast your corn chips in a 300 degree oven for about 10 minutes…they taste AAAAMAZING!
DELICIOSO!
Copycat Restaurant Salsa Recipe
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
2 – 15 oz cans stewed tomatoes
1 whole fresh jalapeno, sliced…(this isn’t too spicy…about medium heat…use 1/2 of a jalapeno for less heat)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cumin
3/4 tsp dry oregano leaves (I use Mexican Oregano)
1 Tble sugar
juice of 1 lime
3 whole green onions, chopped (use green and white portions)
1/2 bunch cilantro, leaves only (about 1 cup)
2 – 4 oz cans green chilies
Instructions
Toss in the blender: tomatoes, jalapeno slices, salt, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, sugar and lime juice. Blend on high until smooth. This combines that spices and evening incorporates that fresh jalapeno!
Next toss in green onions, cilantro, and green chilies. Blend for a few seconds on a low speed. This will mix in your green ingredients by chopping them up slightly. You do not want to blend on high or the cilantro, chilies and green onion will blend too much…changing the incredible crimson color of your salsa to a sludgy brown color. Not very appetizing!
That’s it! Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve. Serve alongside hot fresh chips or your favorite Mexican dish! ENJOY!
