5 Ways to Be More Spiritually Centered

How to Be More Spiritually Centered
By: Darci Maxwell

Living in this hard world takes a toll on our spiritual health. We each have a spiritual side to our well-being and often it is the part of us that get forgotten.  Being spiritually centered helps us find joy in life. We need to remember to take the time to connect to our God despite all the distractions of our everyday lives. Spirituality brings bliss and peace to our hearts.  Read on to learn how you can become more spiritually centered.

Meditate
Taking the time to quiet the world around you and think about God will inevitably help you be spiritually centered. (there is a reason why biblical prophets often went into the mountains to hear His voice). Regular meditation will help you connect with God and find peace. Find a quiet place to calm your thoughts and focus on God. If you have a hard time quieting your thoughts, start by taking deep, soothing breaths. Think of everything that He has done for you. As you fill your heart with gratitude, your mind will be filled with peace. For more tips and tricks on how to meditate, check out this blog.

Pray Meaningfully
As we grow older, our prayers unfortunately become thoughtless repetition or even forgotten.  We thank God for the same things, ask Him to bless us in the same way, and end them quickly, and without purpose. It is important to change that mentality in order to find peace. When you pray, take a moment to quiet your thoughts, and start a conversation with God. Remember not to only ask Him for things, but to be grateful for what He has given you. Let Him know what you are struggling with, and what your recent successes are. Tell Him the desires of your heart. Remember that He is your Father, and He loves you.

Read Your Scriptures
An old adage says “If man wishes to talk to God, he should pray, but if man wishes to hear God’s voice, he should read the scriptures.” The scriptures contain many words of wisdom that will help you be more spiritually centered. There are stories of those who held their faith. As you strive to connect with God, you should read from the scriptures daily. There are many methods that you can use: you can read it just like any other book: cover to cover, study it topically, supplement your reading with words of pastors and preachers, and more. Find a way that works for you, and do it.

Trust God
As you seek to live a more spiritually centered life, you need to let go of your pride and turn your will to God. It can be hard to trust, especially when life doesn’t seem to go according to plan, but it is important to remember that it will always go according to His plan.  Go forward with faith, and He will guide you.

Practice Gratitude
Everything that we have — our families, friends, possessions, and even your job — is a gift from God. It is important to remember this, and to thank God often for all He has done. To help get you started, ask yourself “What if I woke up tomorrow with only the things that I thanked God for today?” You may find it useful to keep a gratitude journal so that you can write down the things that you are grateful for, and have something to read when you begin to feel dejected.  Gratitude helps us feel peace and joy even in the hardest of times and is one of the ways to be happy as this article suggests.
