Little House on the Prairie Party

I did a Little House on the Prairie party once for Sweet Tween when she was younger.  Sweet Tween is super literary and she was so into Laura Ingall’s books, so we threw her a Little House Birthday Party.

I originally searched for ideas on the internet and didn’t find many.  So I’m passing my ideas onto you.  I hope it helps!

THE INVITE

I used this customizable and printable invitation from The Decorologist.  Click on the image above and it will take you there.

PARTY FAVORS

Metal buckets and little wooden figures from Michaels or any dollar store.  Old fashioned candy too. I got so lucky because my friend found a like-new set of Little House books at Goodwill for only $1 each.  The girls loved getting a book!

THE CAKE

I’m not a cake decorator by trade, just a mom having fun with my kids.  This was fun to make.  German chocolate frosting, pioneer toys from Michael’s, chocolate Pirouette cookies for the cabin, and rock candy for the path.

HOMEMADE BUTTER AND BREAD

The girls made their own little jar of homemade butter.  They had to shake it and everything.  Here’s my recipe:
Homemade Butter
1 Small Baby Food Jar
1/4 cup of COLD Heavy Whipping Cream
Put lid on jar and shake and shake until it thickens
Add Salt to taste

They each got a mini loaf of bread that I made with Rhodes Dough to eat with their butter.

ACTIVITIES

Dress Up:  We mentioned on the invite that the girls could dress up in pioneer-style clothes. We saw many aprons, bonnets, skirts, and braids.  It was darling!

Dinner: Our main activity was having a pioneer meal of carrots, potatoes, and roast (all done in the slow cooker) and the bread and butter they made.

Hand-made Toys: Using Crayola Model Magic the girls made hand-made toys to take home.  We talked about how pioneers had to be creative and make their own playthings. Model Magic is easy to mold and it dries nicely.

Pass the Pail: This was our only outside game.  It’s a relay. I filled our kiddie pool up with water and had the girls stand in lines in 2 teams.  The first person fills a bucket with some water and they quickly pass it down the line of their teammates and try to fill up a large container at the other end of the line.  The first time to fill it wins.

We had old-fashioned candies: lemon drops, rootbeer, cinnamon

And even the dolls got into the fun!
