So I have this theory that MOMS ARE AMAZING. I believe mothers have a powerful ability to teach their children. Mothers know their children better than anyone and therefore can suit their child’s learning according to their needs. I’m not a homeschooler (though I highly esteem those who are). And I don’t think you have to be a homeschooler to teach your kidlets wonderful things.
I think we mothers should try to pass on as much positive learning as we can to our children. Whether it be social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, or physical –there is often time in our day (even 1-2 mins) to provide teaching moments for our children.
However, there is a problem with this theory. It is this: Even though mothers make great teachers and have this powerful ability to understand their children, it is still a very HARD task to teach them.
I am proving this to myself by deciding to be my kidlets’ PIANO TEACHER! Aaaaagh!
I’ve had trouble finding a piano teacher that fits our needs and our budget in our new town. I didn’t want Sweet Tween and Little Son to lose what they had already learned from previous teachers. And Baby Girl was dying to start learning (music is her thing).
So after much thinking about what to do, it made sense in my mind that I should be their piano teacher until another solution is found. Now, it should be noted that I am no professional piano player. I can play (thanks to my grandma), but I have to practice and practice. I’ve also NEVER taught anyone how to play or read music. But I decided with a little effort, some research, and A LOT of PATIENCE I could probably do it. It would also save us MONEY and travel time. Two biggies.
Anyway, here’s some stuff I’ve learned and some resources I’ve found in case anyone else out there is crazy brave enough to teach their kid piano. You can find all of these PINNED on my PIANO LESSONS PINTEREST BOARD
(P.S. This is NOT a sponsored post. I’m just passing along good info for you):
I LOVE Free Piano Lessons 4 Kids. http://www.freepianolessons4kids.com/ Joseph Hoffman has put up over 20 free video lessons for very beginners and up for anyone to watch. They are helpful to me when I am having a hard time explaining something, so I’ll add it to part of our lesson. He uses very simple explanations. He also has teaching downloads.
I also often get music from the blog Music for Music Teachers. This site has tons of sheet music that you can download and print for many different levels. It helps when I need to add variety to their music.
